In 2017 we installed a helium (He) recovery system from Quantum Design with the capacity to purify and produce approximately 40 L of liquid helium (LHe) a day. Currently the daily boil-off of all our spectrometers and the boil-off of fills from the 3 major and some smaller magnets is being recovered. This reduced our LHe purchases by 80% annually. We have since added new spectrometers to the facility and are in the process of connecting the remaining magnet fills into the recovery system to continue to improve our efficiency of helium recovery and recycling.We have capacity to store up to 120 L of He gas, 280 L of compressed He gas and store around 800 L of LHe, which allows us to keep all our magnets running for a couple of months in case of an unexpected shortage.
