Chad moved to NMRFAM in Jan. 2020 and leads the solid-state NMR (SSNMR) instrumentation technology development and user programs. As part of his startup activities, NMRFAM has obtained three new 14.1 Tesla (600 MHz) shielded magnets (Ribeye, Taurus and Damara) and upgraded the 900 MHz (Fleckvieh) with a custom-designed 1.6 mm PhoenixNMR quadruple resonance HFXY probe. Other probe designs are being developed and a quintuple resonance wide bore 750 MHz spectrometer (Ayrshire) is in the process of being relocated to NMRFAM. In addition to his activities in support of the NMRFAM directly, Chad’s research group collaborates with experts in neurodegeneration (Kotzbauer), fungal disease (Burke), blood coagulation (Morrissey) and viral pathogenesis (Kirchdoerfer) to apply state-of-the-art SSNMR techniques to longstanding and highly significant biomedical challenges.
